Fair Winds Lecture: Chiang Ching-kuo's Family and State Affairs Viewed from his Diary
Historical figures have multiple facets, and Chiang Ching-kuo is no exception. Chiang died 32 years ago. Most people think that he is both majestic and mysterious. On one hand, he is kind and simple, but his subordinates find him suspicious and unpredictable. He once said: “No matter what other people think, Chiang Ching-kuo is Chiang Ching-kuo!” Obviously, he had a different expectation and evaluation of himself.
This year, the Hoover Institution declassified Chiang Ching-kuo’s dairy. Due to the pandemic, it became inconvenient for people to view it, so many secrets that have been sealed for a long time still need to be revealed. For example, how did Chiang Ching-kuo evaluate himself? How did he treat his relatives, subordinates, and family members? How did he view the various challenges facing Taiwan at that time? The Fair Winds Foundation is pleased to invite Professor Kuo Tai-chun, a scholar of modern Chinese history at Stanford University, and also a proponent of opening Chiang Kai-shek and Chiang Ching-uo’s diaries, to discuss little-known bits in Chiang Ching-kuo’s diary.
